Great first blog and the topic couldn’t have been more appropriate for you. I, too, have been a huge Letterman fan for years. HR issues aside, in his quiet moments, I’m sure he’s wondering how he became fodder for other late night comics when what he did was done while he was a single man. I absolutely LOVED how he made himself the brunt of the jokes with his audiences for a couple of nights after the story broke . . . PR genius in my opinion. Why? Because nobody’s talking about it publicly anymore. Period. Yes, he may continue to face scrutiny behind the scenes and the network will have to investigate any alleged wrongdoing. At the end of the day, however, Letterman makes way too much money for CBS for this to be a long-term issue. And perhaps that’s the saddest part of this . . . that the almighty dollar may, again, prevail despite any truth to claims that career advancement decisions were made based upon whether you were hooking up with the big boss. So who will really have the PR problem . . . Letterman or CBS?
